Frequently asked questions
›1. Where are my recipes stored?
Kitchen Cryptid stores your cookbook on your device. When private iCloud sync is available, your cookbook can sync through your Apple account. Kitchen Cryptid does not require a separate account.
›2. How do I turn on iCloud sync?
Check that you are:
- Signed into Apple ID
- iCloud Drive enabled
- Kitchen Cryptid allowed under iCloud settings
- Adequate iCloud storage
- Internet connection available
- Using the same Apple account on both devices
›3. How do I back up my cookbook?
Open Settings → Data & iCloud → Export Kitchen Archive. The archive can be saved in Files or iCloud Drive.
›4. How do I import a backup?
Open Settings → Data & iCloud → Import Kitchen Archive. Merge and Replace options are available where applicable.
›5. How do I import recipes from a PDF?
Open Cookbook → Add → Import a PDF Stack. You can review, split, merge, or ignore pages, run OCR, and save the selected recipes.
›6. Why did Kitchen Cryptid misunderstand a scanned recipe?
OCR and page separation are estimates. Try:
- Better scan quality
- Straightened page
- Higher contrast
- Reviewing title, ingredients, and steps
- Using Scan Again
- Manually splitting or merging pages
›7. What is Cryptid Basics?
Cryptid Basics turns one or two available ingredients into simple food ideas. One ingredient can be enough.
›8. What is a Smart Action?
A Smart Action is an optional online request used for tasks such as internet recipe discovery, difficult recipe cleanup, or ingredient-photo recognition. Local cookbook searches, recipe scaling, grocery lists, and most saved-recipe features do not use Smart Actions.
›9. How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple: iPhone Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions → Kitchen Cryptid. See Apple’s subscription instructions for details.
›10. How do I restore purchases?
Open Kitchen Cryptid → Settings → Membership → Restore Purchases.
›11. What happens if I cancel or downgrade?
Your existing recipes are not deleted. You can continue reading, cooking, editing, deleting, and exporting saved recipes. Saving additional content or using paid features may be limited until you resubscribe or return below the active tier’s limit.
›12. How many recipes can I save?
- Free: up to 3 personal recipes
- Cryptid Plus: up to 250 personal recipes
- Cryptid Vault: up to 2,000 personal recipes
Built-in recipes do not count as personal recipes.
›13. How do I delete my data?
See the Delete Your Kitchen Data section of the Privacy Policy.
›14. Does Kitchen Cryptid guarantee food safety or allergen safety?
No. Always verify labels, allergens, dietary requirements, storage history, spoilage, and safe cooking temperatures.
›15. The app froze or crashed. What should I do?
- Force close and reopen
- Confirm the latest app version
- Restart the device
- Check available storage
- Try the action again
- Contact support with device model, iOS version, app version, exact steps, and a screenshot
Do not delete the app before exporting your data.
›16. Can support access my cookbook?
No. Kitchen Cryptid does not provide support staff with automatic access to your local or private iCloud cookbook. Support can see only content you intentionally submit.
