1. Getting started

Install HarborLight, open it, and add your first document. There is no HarborLight account to create — the app works immediately on your device. If you want your library on more than one Apple device, turn on iCloud sync in Settings the first time you open the app.

2. Adding a document

Tap the add button and choose how you want to bring a record in:

  • Scan a paper document with the camera
  • Import a PDF or image from Files or Photos
  • Share into HarborLight from Mail, Safari, or another app using the share sheet
  • Paste a screenshot

HarborLight reads the document, extracts key facts, and files it into your Harbor Inbox for review.

3. Supported files and scans

HarborLight works with photos, camera scans, screenshots, and PDFs, including multi-page documents. For the best recognition, capture the full page in even lighting, keep the page flat, and avoid covering text with your fingers or a shadow. Very low-resolution or heavily handwritten pages may not extract cleanly.

4. Understanding an explanation

An explanation is HarborLight’s summary of what a document appears to say, written in ordinary language: who sent it, what it asks for, what it costs, and what happens next. It is a reading aid, not professional advice, and it can be wrong. Always confirm high-stakes details against the original document.

5. Show Where This Came From

Every extracted fact has a Show Where This Came From control. Tap it and HarborLight highlights the exact place in the original document that the value was read from, so you can verify it in one look instead of trusting a summary.

6. Correcting an extracted fact

Tap any extracted value and edit it. Your correction takes precedence over the automatic result and updates related timelines, reminders, and guided matters. Corrections are stored with the document on your device.

7. Harbor Inbox

New imports land in the Harbor Inbox so nothing gets filed away before you have looked at it. Review the extracted facts, confirm or correct them, then file the record into your library or attach it to an existing matter.

8. Finish Something / guided matters

Finish Something turns a pile of related paperwork into one guided matter with a clear next step — for example a claim, a renewal, or a dispute. HarborLight tracks which documents belong to it, what the deadlines look like, and what is still outstanding. You decide whether to actually send, file, pay, or sign anything.

9. iCloud and CloudKit sync

Turn sync on in HarborLight → Settings → Sync. Sync uses your own private iCloud storage through Apple’s CloudKit; it does not send your library to us. Both devices must be signed into the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive enabled. Large libraries can take a while on the first sync — keep the app open on Wi-Fi to let it finish.

10. Trusted Household

Trusted Household lets you share selected records with people you choose, using Apple’s secure sharing. Invite a person, pick what they can see, and remove their access whenever you want. Sharing is opt-in and per-person — nothing is shared by default.

11. Deleting an individual document

Use the document’s menu and choose Delete. The original file and the information derived from it are removed. With sync on, the deletion applies to your other devices too.

12. Delete Data From This Device

HarborLight → Settings → Data → Delete Data From This Device clears HarborLight data from the device you are using while leaving any synced iCloud copy in place.

13. Delete HarborLight Data Everywhere

HarborLight → Settings → Data → Delete HarborLight Data Everywhere removes your data from the device and from your synced iCloud/CloudKit storage. This cannot be undone. Export first if you want a copy, and remember that deleting data does not cancel a subscription.

14. Restoring purchases

Open HarborLight → Plans & Legal → Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed into the same Apple Account that made the original purchase.

15. Managing or canceling subscriptions

Open Apple Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions → HarborLight, or visit apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Apple handles billing, renewals, and refunds; we cannot cancel or refund a subscription on your behalf.

16. Free, Plus, and Pro access

HarborLight’s Free tier lets you import, read, and organize records so you can try the app on your real paperwork. Plus and Pro unlock the higher-volume and deeper workflow capabilities described on the plan screen inside the app. The plan screen in HarborLight → Plans & Legal always shows the current, authoritative list of what each tier includes.

17. Missing documents or delayed loading

If a document is missing or slow to appear, confirm sync is enabled and finished on both devices, check that the device has free storage, and give a large first sync time to complete. Force-closing and reopening HarborLight usually resolves a stalled load.

18. Offline behavior

HarborLight works offline for viewing, importing, reading, and organizing your library. Features that need the network — iCloud sync, Trusted Household updates, and Official Source Check — resume when you are back online.

19. Privacy and sensitive documents

Your documents stay on your device and, if you enable it, in your own iCloud account. We do not receive copies of your library. See the HarborLight Privacy Policy and Privacy Choices pages for the full detail on storage, sharing, and deletion.

20. Reporting a bug

Email support with the app version, iOS version, device type, what you were doing, and what happened instead. Screenshots help — redact anything private first.

Troubleshooting checklist

  • Confirm HarborLight is updated to the latest version.
  • Confirm the device has available storage.
  • Confirm iCloud Drive is enabled if you are using sync.
  • Force-close and reopen HarborLight.
  • Restart the device.
  • Do not delete the app before exporting your data when troubleshooting a serious data issue.
  • Contact support with your app version, iOS version, device type, and a description of the problem.
  • Do not email private documents unless support specifically requests a redacted example.
